Cold Rain/Nimrod

Man the fish were biting fair Saturday even with falling water. The water temps ranged 57 early and some shallow coves 64 late afternoon. Well this cold rain is raising the water fast and dropped water temps to 56.:( Needless to say it stinks right now.:(
Hope the rain will skip us and sun will warm the water next couple weeks. Otherwise our fishing will be spotty at best.

Your right Nimrod...if we could just get some stable anything it would be a big help....I'm going to give it a go again on Thursday after a few days of sunshine and see whats happening up on Greer's.

Went Saturday afternoon and caught 4 small ones about 18 feet deep. Everyone I talked to said it was slow.

I was at Greers yesterday and the water temp was between 55 and 57. A few days of sunshine, with no wind, would sure help move them toward the buck brush.

C&B I lived at the Brier before I retired but moved North of Clinton after retirement. Do you know a fellow by the name of Seth Meritt Jr. Use to crappie fish with him and his family. Super nice guy. His health has not been good the last few years but he still gets out once in a while. He can tell you stories of strings of crappie we have caught out of GF and Nimrod. This was back in the good old days...before the corps messed up Nimrod and before the hybrid bass in GF:mad:

I caught some descent fish Sat morning. Lots of dinks (about 60) were biting. I had couple real slabs. Fish were around 10' deep as cold and dropping levels kept them out of the shallows. We cooked them last night, nothing beats fresh Crappie.
The water is 351msl this morning ,the rise is slowing. Hopefully it will get back down quickly.

Sorry can't place him, meet so many and not good with names. I fished Nimrod since 1972 and seen some good times here.

How sad! Just think: Without the Corps you wouldn't have all those beautiful lakes to fish and you'd have to go and find some other agency to cuss (pardon me) criticize. :rolleyes:

What you are saying is somewhat true, but where would the corps be if the avid fishermen (taxpayers) could say no more money for you until you consider our side of the situation. I have been told by the corps up at Nimrod several times that the lake is there for flood control and they could care less about the fishing or the fishermen. Sorry but that is the way it is. Nimrod use to be the best crappie lake in the state of AR. until the corps started yo yoing the lake level during spawning season and started keeping the level below the buckbrush for the crappie to spawn in. You can say I am criticizing, but in fact I am telling the truth.

I hate to tell you this but. The COE can't control mother nature. This lake was built to control floods. The well meaning sportsmen around here drove the final nail in the coffin of our fishery. They petitioned to have lake level changed to 345 from 342 during the spawn. Only thing I can see is they succeded in drowning most of our shoreline cover. Even those behind this are now realizing I was right in being against it.
