I have just started yo yoing and was would like to know how the pros do it such as how deep you set them, do you use a leader, or just snap the hook to the swivel, how you place them, bait and just anything you would like to tell me
thanks so much

I don't use leaders at all. Hang them from the edge of tops baited with a minnow set about 3-5" deep works best for me. I usually hook my minnows throught the lips unless the wind is blowing hard and then I hook them through the eyes!
Make sure you tie them to sturdy limbs as big cats are liable to be caught as well.
Remember the law about yo-yos----from daylight until dark they must be in your eyesight. Game and fish will give you a ticket if you just set them out and leave them, plus someone might take them also. Insure the yo-yo does not pull the fish out of the water, this happens when you have them hanging to high or it may be a smaller fish. The really big cats will tear a yo-yo to pieces.
Tie yo yo to limber limb, this will help to keep larger fish. Put a small twig in line with a double hitch which will keep fish in water and then you can release the samll ones and the keepers will stay alive. Remember the number of yo yo's you can fish has increased from 20 to 30 per person. I fish the minnows 12 to 16 inches deep. Good Luck..:)
I purchase wood clamps from Home Depot for .99 cents each and tie the yo-yo to the clamp. Then I go along clamping the wood clamp to the tree limbs and set the yo-yo 1 ft into the water with a minnow through the lips. This makes it easy to retrieve the yo-yo from the tree. I've caught lots of crappie and catfish using yo-yo's.
you can undo a couple of turns off the spool to keep the yoyo from pulling small crappie out of the water or when the limb is too high. i made a couple of dozen floating yoyos by putting a "T" in a section of black pipe and putting a short section on the upright of the "T".Plugged the end and tied yoyo on. Set them out and let them drift.
Old town with a can of Arkansas leaf crawlers and about 50 yoyos will get 20 catfish about anytime. I had a friend who set out a dozen one night and caught a hundred.that was before the possum cops got so bad. The cleaning would be punishment fitting to the crime as i see it.
