50 hp Tohatsu year model???

I just recently bought a boat with a 50 horse Tohatsu with power tilt and trim. The year model of the motor was questionable... I was told it was a 94. I was just wanting some reassurance. The plate right below the cover is
M50D, 3 E3, 53438. Can anyone help...?
