Question about transducer placement 997

I am wondering where isthe best place to mount my transducer for my Humminbird 997. You can see I already have one transducer in place from when I got the boat. It loses bottom signal when I start to get 15MPH or better. It also gets a lot of clutter that my main Finder doesnt. I do not want to have the same issues with the SI whenI hook it up friday. Ain't no such thing as a good place to put that knee board......:eek:

Your speed sensor is in the way

I can move what ever to where ever thats not the issues. And cane pole I wouls at least like to be in ball park area for getting it right

There are directions in the owners manual as where to start. Go to side imagaging web and look at some of the posted pictures of
mounts.

And at high speeds you're gonna lose bottom signal with the side imaging ducer anyway. Anything over 35 mph for me. I put in a high speed ducer and a ducer switch for mine.

Looked atthe website and still am concerned. The concern i have is the step on the bottom. I was thinking thats why I lose my signal on cheap finder all the time

Yep U should be concerned cause that step is gonna cause turbulence. Lets face it because of the size of 997 ducer u will loose your signal at some speed as boat backend rises out of water so u are not goin to get a signal at some point/speed could be 10mph or 35mph varies with boat. But that step is goin to cause problems probably after 4/7 mph maybe sooner. Solution is to get below step but then u don't want to go too deep and wack ducer on a stump. U could position 997 ducer high for slow speed & thru use of a "y" cable hook up a hi speed(smaller) ducer just for down looking views200 & 83 or u could go to bass pro and buy a portable ducer bracket for 40/45$$ that clamps on back of boat- mine, is good up to 34mph. This will allow u to adjust the ducer in seconds- up/down sideways etc. with NO HOLES in boat.. Been using one for 3 years no trouble & I switch ducer & 997 between boats, takes maybe 5 10 minutes to make switch.
