Horseshoe is fairly predictable...Start out in the channel and work your way towards the deeper bank until you find fish. If that doesn't produce anything, be sure to try the docks in deeper water. If you launch down on the southern end of the lake, look for the dock with a red roof and try that area.
I haven't heard of a good report on Burnt Cane since last year. I don't have a firsthand report, but folks are saying that the fish "swam out" during the flooding. Or, maybe they are just being tight-lipped after it got so much fishing pressure for the last few years...;) Either way, good luck and be sure to give us a report on Friday.
Thanks! I have fished both in the past, but didn't know about the dock with the red roof. We'll definately give it a shot. I just hope the weather holds off friday and we get a chance to go. If we do I will report back!
Haven't been down there yet this year, but the rumor mill has it that they have catching them trolling. Have heard reports of some people trying the shallows and docks with no success.
We've been bream fishing on Horseshoe the last three weekends, but have caught some incidental crappie along the way. Lots of people have been spider rigging the breakline outside the docks, and seem to be catching several fish. Boat traffic is nuts on the weekends, but that's to be expected when it starts warming up.
Been spider rigging numerous times since Feb, fished three times last week and left with 39, 20, and 41. Across the board they were really good fish, only threw back around 15 for the whole week. Size across the board has been great so far, many fish over 12". Have not fished burnt cane yet, however watch out for your catalytic converter, last year many were stolen at the ramp.
What depth were most of the fish caught at? Do you know what the water temp was? Friday is not looking to good for me right now with the chance of tornadoes already being predicted but saturday may work out? We'll see...Quote:

I wasn't spider rigging so I can't tell you the depths for sure, but from the clusters of boats, it looked like most of the catching was from 12 to 20 feet of water. I'm sure others can give you better specifics.
Water temp in the shallows got up to 58 on Sunday afternoon.
Well we didn't get to go to Horseshoe or Burntcane this past weekend, but we hit a couple of barpits off of the St. Francis. Caught about 12 all together. Not great but at least we were fishing! Talked to my uncle and he fished the same barpits but with minnows and caught considerably more than we did. Anyway just giving a report. When someone goes to Burntcane or Horseshoe let me know.
Don't waste your gas going to Burnt Cane. Still very muddy and no one catching any fish. I think they all left....
