I use a candle but an alcohol burner works good, as does a heat gun. How long you heat it depends on the head. I give 1/80-1/32nd a 3 count, 1/16th a 7 count, and 1/8th a 9 count. Dip it in, swish it fast, and get it out or you'll have too thick of a coating and it'll run while you cure it.
exactly what smooth said . I use the alcohol burner and fro 1/80 and 1/64 I hold for a 2-3 count on both sides and just a quick swish in the powder. for 1/32 and 1/16 I do a 4 count.Quote:

There are holes poked with a hand punch around the edges then you put the jigs in and stick in oven at 350 degrees to preheat: You'll have to keep taking them out and putting them back in until you get them all dipped but this is just my method.

I use a cheap oil lamp from Wal Mart. The glass globed lamps like were used in the old days! Can also use it when the power goes out. Lamp oil is cheap, and $10 total investment will burn forever. Just lower the wick to produce a small flame. Use the counting method mentioned earlier and you are set. Some colors vary in heat time, takes some practice.

I will second all of the above. Find what works best. I think the alcohol burner would be the best way to go for me though. I plan on getting one soon. Always a steady flame, same height and more stable than a candle.
A toaster oven will let you heat small batches and give you easy access to them if you want to heat them all at once.
Best no-fuss alcohol burner is one of those that caterers and some restaurants use for keeping big pans of food hot. They're in a metal can, but I don't know the name of them. No soot at all and last a long time. They have a built-in wick and a cap to keep them from drying out between uses. This is not Sterno, but a gel-type alcohol burner.
Heat gun works great too, if you have one already. Just stand it up on it's back-end. Somewhat safer than a burner 'cause there's no flame.
I use a bic lighter to heat my heads.
