Just bought a new 14' tin boat that weights 300lbs or so and I am going to use a small gas motor to get where I am
going and a 80lb thrust TM for motivation most of the time. Question, do you guys think that an 80ls thrust motor will move my boat at a
good clip? Also, could this motor be used for main power given the 80lb thrust rating?

74lbs will move my 1756 with 60HP 4stroke at 3.5 mph. Bet you'll see close to 5, especially if you have TM mounted on the transom. If on front, you'll get 4 I'm sure. If it's your main propulsion, be sure to have good batteries. A full 1 mile run at 100% power is gonna whoop on those batteries. Especially if you run across, fish all day then have to beat feet back to the ramp.

The Minn Kota pontoon 68 thrust moved my Bass Tracker 18 foot pontoon 3.5 mph...
Last year I compared a 2 stroke 2hp johnson with a 15 year old 50lb thrust MinnKota and the MinnKota matched the speed of the 2ph and would accelerate faster. This was on a 12' rented boat that weighed over 300lbs, not sure what they were made of but they were a tank. This new 80lb motor I hope will make my slick new 14' v perform at least as good as rowing at half speed.
