guys i am very interested in tieing my own jigs what would be a good starter kit for a beginner that want put wife in shock. i would really like to catch fish with my own creation and think it to be very satisfying to do so and also a good place to buy supplies and also when i get started any help and input and even critisism would be very appriceated thanks TW
TW: there are all kinds of starter kits out there... Cabela's, Basspro, and lots of other places sell starter kits. Not sure where I saw it but one place even has a jig specific starter kit. Or you could just buy your vise, scissors, bobbin, thread, head cement, jigheads, chenille, feathers and hair. That's really all you need. Just have some colors in mind that you want to tie before you go shopping so you won't get stuck for a couple hours lookin at all the stuff. Then add to your supply later. You should consider buying your jigheads from one of the craftsmen on this site. We're looking forward to seeing your jigs.

TW- I would recommend Barlow's Tackle. They have a website and they carry some affordable vises, scissors, bobbins, feathers, thread, paints, hooks, molds, etc... You can start with a $10 vise to hold the hooks. No need for a $200 model at this point. It will serve the same purpose and hold up well. My kids each have one of the entry model vises and have had no trouble with them. The one I use was $30 and I love it! I will recommend a good pair of scissors. Around $15 for a good pair. They can get expensive, but these last forever. Also in the fabric section at Wal-Mart you will find tiny scissors with a red handle and sharp point. These work fine and are around $5. Strung marabou feathers are best. Smaller and less waste. The cheapest I have found for basic colors is Cabela's. $4.99 per ounce. Lasts a long time. 1/4 oz. pkgs. last awhile too if you are making them for personal use. Flat waxed nylon thread is strong and will not break as easily as fly thread. You can cinch it down tight. Also recommend a ceramic tipped bobbin. These can be purchased at Barlow's for around $9. PM me if you need anymore info., or email [email protected]. Be glad to help you out.
