This is a tip for placing the blades and rings on pony head lures:
Use a small needle nose plier to hold the split ring, slide the spinner blade onto the split ring, with the blade just on the ring (holding the ring open) slide the pony head onto the ring, now slide both the blade and jig head around the ring until they are in position.
I have found that works best for me. The split ring pliers have been a waist of time and money.

Im a newbe with the pony's.Sandwich maker sent all the ingredients for them a couple weeks ago.Well,everything thing except the patience,skill and eye sight to put them together effectively :p
They make a great looking jig,its just takin me a while to assemble them..
I've been using the Worth split ring pliers for years without a problem but just recently tested a pair of the new ones'

Been using a bodkin to get mine started. Works pretty good.
With a simple pair of needle nose pliers, you can use the pliers to turn the split ring.
I use a pair just like the Medium Opening ones in that link and they work pretty well. I looked at some that are supposed to be the best, but they were $35 and I can see how they work so didn't do that.Quote:
