Seems every vacation we choose, we forget how awful the mayflies were! Does anybody remember when the mayflies are out? Last year, we think week of May 18th, we were fishing on Lake Dardenelle, and was literally covered with blowing, out of control mayflies. Was interesting watching the changes they made everyday, but sure made fishing difficult. Does anyone know when they are due again. This time, I will mark my calendar.

it seems they dont get bad till first of May. I fish down there petty regular last year I thinkwas the worst. They usually dont bother me unless you desturb a limb or it is windy. They were catching a few already in Shoal Creek last week. I have went down there yet for crappie. I have a bass tourny in a few weeks and one April 6th. I will be scouting in a few days down there. I am just ready for the crappie to turn on first.
I like to get out on the water when the mayflies start, just find a bush they're on and the big bream will be there.
I have seen the mayflies covering a willow tree hanging over the Saline River and the water constantly churning with bream. Tie a pop-n-bug followed with a bream killer and catch two bream at a time for as long as your wrist will hold out.
A flyrod is a whole 'nother world of fun when the mayflies are dropping. That's a time I love to fish for bream.....a different style of catching them other that with just a cork and hook.
