Got My Vise Today Danvise

Hey guys

Got my vise today the first of many things i will need to get I guess before I will actually be able to start tying some jigs here. Since I am new to this I was wondering if anyone could check this think out for me and give me your advise as to if it would be any good for tying jigs for crappie. Dont have allot to spend so i really dont want to get the wrong material.

Do you have any favorite brands for some of the other items i will need to get for example Scissors, thread bobbin, hackle pliers, things like that like i said earlier dont have a lot to spend so i want to get some good stuff when i do buy

go to barlows tackle on the net they have everything u need and prices are good

Doc, that kit is mostly for FLY tying. You'll be buying a bunch of stuff you'll never use if you just want to tie jigs. For example, that kit contains dry fly hooks down to size 20, bead heads, peacock herl, etc. It'd be great if you plan on tying nothing but trout flies. I don't think it would help you much for jigs, though.

All the materials you really need to tie jigs are chenille, marabou and thread.

I agree it doesn't look too bad, but not all that will you use tying jigs. If you were a fly tier too then sure, but I would do something else because there are a lot of materials in that picture that you may never use tying jigs like the Dry Fly Hackle and other things as well.

Just my opinion though,

Get a GOOD pair of scissors. Don't skimp there. Dr. Slick and Anvil make good scissors. A ceramic bobbin is nice but not essential. Hackle pliers are not necessary for most jigs.

In addition to Cabelas and Bass Pro, Hook & Hackle is another good option:

Hook & Hackle Fly Fishing Tackle, Fly Fishing Supplies, Fly Tying Supplies and Fly Rod Building Supplies

As the others said it's a decent kit to get started in tying FLIES not JIGS!!!!!

Pick the colors you think you'll tie the most and buy those colors to start!!! As you get better you can buy more. My tying scissors cost me $2 a pair and I can sharpen them as needed. I get them at the local flea market. I do use ceramic bobbins though.

Read through the sticky's on this page and look through all the old threads!!! You'll learn much. If you get stuck ask, we were all new tyers once!! That is why we try to pass on the teachings that we received, it helps the sport grow.

Thanks that was the kind of answer i was looking for since all i want to tie are jigs. You guys are the best in here
