How deep is too deep?

Got some bamboo in 45' of water and have not fished yet. Is it too deep? It comes up to about 35' from the surface. Just want to know how far down is a waste of time.

I got boo condos in 35 ft of water and they are 15 ft tall.......
Hold crappie great... it is under a bridge between 2 columns next to a levee....

I have yet to put anything this deep. I build crappie holes for lake front property owners, and usually build a reef type structure going from shallow to deep. The deepest I've done so far is about 25 feet - but the only reason I haven't put anything deeper is that I have not had a client who has access to water that deep from their pier.
I use a variety of materials, but use a PVC tree most of the time. I like it because you can join as many as you need together (they are so tight that you don't even need glue) to make it as tall as you want. Check out fishingholebuilders.com to see these trees.
As far as making a reef - it's just a line of structure going down a slope so that you can have good fishing during a lot of different seasons. I often start out with a porcupine fish attractor in the shallower section, and often mix in some natural structure.
I would think your structure that is this deep would work best either in the middle of winter or the middle of summer. I think the makeup of your lake or river has a lot to do as to if this will work being this deep. Please update us as to how this works out.

Depth is relative to average lake depth , water color, temp , and season on each lake.

Racoon, I put 3 15' tall condos close together in 50' of clear water in central NC. Been doing pretty good on'em too. All the crappie I've caught have been good ones and some nice bass, catfish and perch.

I have access to some 30' tall bamboo, but I don't know if its too tall for deep water setup. Its about 2-3" thick at the base. What would that have to be set up in to hold it down?

5 gal bucket of cement and some detergent bottles wired to the top?
