Just wondering what most of you guys do when it comes to the jig 1/32 and 1/16 oz. Do you pour your own for making jigs or do you purchase jig heads for your jig making needs.
If you pour them what molds do you use and if you buy them where are some good places to purchase them from.
Pour mine. I do this because I like bigger hooks than most folks. I use a #1 in all of mine. I got one mold on e-bay, but you have to be careful not to get one that is warped. The others I got from Barlowstackle.com. I use the "do-it" molds.
Done The Math, Used To Do Our Own But Hooks Were $18 A 1000 Now They Are $60. We Buy 1/16 Oz #2 #4 #6 Or #8 $ 4.29 Per 50. Can't Pour Them For That And We Buy 1 1/2" Tube Bodies Any Color Comb You Would Want For $4 Per 100........:)
I pour mine......... Also use the do--it mold.. Got mine at gander mountain.

I like pouring my own. That way I can decide size, color of hook etc. etc. Course it was an easy decision for me as I have always poured my own jigs even before I started to tie. It could be really time consuming for somebody that is tying large quantities for sale.
As I only tie for myself pouring what I need can usually done on a foul weather day and no fishing time is lost. Pouring for commercial purpose would also require a bottom pour production pot. Luckily I already had one of these for pouring my own bullets when I used to hunt.
As a caution the smaller the jig the more trouble I have with it. Don't know if its just me or what. Once I go below 1/32 oz the headaches seem to multiply. I would love to have one of those 10 at a time pro do-it precision molds but cannot bring myself to spending over a 100.00 on a mold. I will just poke along using the standard do-it @ 31.00
