Personally, i have no experience with them. I think most on this board will tell you that they will work, but be glad you got em for Christmas and that you didn't buy them yourself because for the money, you can do a LOT more on your own. Look around in this section for suggestions on where to put them and other structure building ideas. Usually on dropoffs near deep water is a good bet. Placing them shallow for the springtime can be good. I think the best thing to do is to try to hide them and mark them with a GPS so only YOU know where they are. That said, other people will find them and they DO have the right to fish them if you're fishing public water, just like you have the right to fish any brushpile you find. Whatever you do, good luck and I hope you load the boat!
My neighbor has them in his lake and he won't tell me where he put them.:(
He says they work very well.
Have fun and good luck
put a three pack out around my dock and I was very excited...two years later not worth fishing really and the natural brush pile I put out next to them is a consistant producer...dunno why...in the spring to early summer it is almost every cast off the real brush...???????
the reason thet thet dont produce as good as they should is because algae takes a long time to grow on plastic. Thats what brings the bait fish......we will rough up the next one and tie hay to it to speed the process...
ours are covered in algae in about a week
Ole gritts can contribute two stories about pines. Put pines out last week, got the jig pole out to see how they felt and before the bubbles cleared, wham a nice crappie. Have had some out a good while and they still produce from time to time. I feel good that I have cleared up the issues.
be sure and mark them with the gps, they are REALLY hard to find on the depth finder.
They hold fish great, I regularly catch fish off of them.
