Does any one know of a fish farm that sells minnows? I am looking for one North of Atlanta in the Acworth area or between atlanta and Chattanooga. I go north frequently to visit family.

Been thinking of trying to make some kinda tank or something to keep left over minnows alive till the next trip. Try to cut down on some of the cost and worrying about getting to the bait store before it closes. Anyone tried it? Is it worth the effort? jfraley...is that what you do?
Folks,
Crappster has been catching his own shiners and bringing them back and putting them in his 75 gallon aquarium and keeping them for each trip. He's had a couple hundred in the tank and they do well for weeks. He takes a four foot 1/4 inch mesh cast net and goes to any stream or river throws out a can of cat or dog food on a string lets it set for a bit and starts casting. He's been very successful. He transports them in 48 qt cooler rigged with an aerator.

That sounds like a good idea. Right now I am just buying minnows by the dozen each trip. I have put minnow in my aquarium before, the bream like them. I was thinking about making a holding tank out of a plastic 50 gallon drum if I could buy them by the pound. I took my friend fishing over the weekend (he normally doesn't fish) we bought minnows by his place and they must have been refrigerated because they were all dead but a few by the time we got on the water. I hope the rain clears out soon. I can't wait to get back on the water. I don't like the storms and lighting, but I can handle a drizzle.
I used to do that with the 75 gallon tank while I didn't have any other fish in there. But as of this past April I put them in the shed out back in a 50 gallon plastic storage bin. I have an aereator with two bubble stones running in it. I can put 200 to 300 shiners in there and they do great. When it began to get a little warm I would drop in a fozen liter bottle of water in the afternoon. This kept the water cool. Very little maintenance and they keep for as long as you want.
We have a minnow farm (Perry's) in Suffolk, Va but that is quite a ways out of your area.

Check with them. They have a place in Tenn too.
