My favorite fly/jig
I don't have a picture because I have never tied one properly but I love this pattern.
It is called the "bead head rock roller" or "beaded rock roller". Look it up and let me know what you think. I really think it could be an awesome jig in the right colors for crappie and gills.

That is a link to the best pictures I have found for it. If I could actually tie the darn thing I would have many of them for a lot of different species.

ummmmm good luck with that thing...looks great but i dont think i would want to spend 2-4 hours on one jig...looks like they take alot of time

I know some of the guys on the realistic fly forums who tied some of these and they spent alot of time on them. Hats off to you if you give it a go!!!

I have tried to do it many times and failed many times. The only one I got that looked good was when I glued tiny pebbles to a tube and put that on the hook. It looked good but was too heavy to fly fish with. That and the pebbles flew off after the second or third cast.

Didn't remember what it was until I saw it. Yeah too much time involved with that I believe.
Do I think it can be good? Sure why not?

I think I am gonna try with some other materials in different colors. I should be able to find some material similar to leg material that will work. Can't see why silicone skirt material in pink, orange, red, green and whatever won't make a nice crappie jig.
Not sure I want to make very many though unless I figure out how to make them fast.

i bet that would be killer on the yakima

Just a thought. De barb---locate bead----Dub thorax- tie off--- Build yarn sub body--coat with epoxy and roll in favorite sand.
I don't have any interest in tying this one just thoughts. Illinoisgiller
