Q Beam Nightstalking light

Finally figured out what others had posted about using a Q Beam for night fishing. The only Q Beam I have ever used was for chasing hogs or navigating the waters. Found one yesterday at Walmart for about 14.00, I smiled when it hit me and grabbed it up. Went to Sinclair but didn't get fishing till right at dark. Dropped it over the side and WOW that thing really lights up the under water world! Wish I had 4 or five, until about two hours later. My depth finder has a battery warning on it and it started going nuts. I had the depth finder, a clamp on light, and the QB on one battery, and the trolling motor and two clamp on lights on the other battery. I have trolled all day long with barely using one battery, and fished all night and not use both batterys. Is there any way to slow down the amount of juice those QB draw? Would like to use at least one on each side, but just can't see having 3 batteries in my small boat. Fish didn't bite either. And yes both batteries were fully charged.

I use 1 trolling battery for two q beams and they never get dim. Might check that warning or the battery. The low power for so much light is what impresses me about them.

I will check them both. If you are able to run two off of one battery, then I definately should not have had a problem with one. I really wanted to try it at Juliette last night but, didn't want to risk losing a battery on that lake with my son with me. The clamp on lights I use work fine in that clear water. My son said there were millions of minnows and shad all around our boat, and from what I saw, he wasn't far off on the count. Only two fish caught under the lights. Not sure what I did wrong. Next time I a gonna try one or two QBeams dropped about 5' down and just enough ligt on the boat to see what I am doing. Maybe with the lights on the surface it had'em spooked. There are no docks or lights of any kind on that lake.

Some nights they just don't bite.... That's fishing. The Qbeam is the best light I have used. I started out 30yrs ago with a latern. Then I stuck a pie tin and a 12v light on a cut off cane pole to get it out from the boat. I made floaters with headlights and styrofoam and used those until nightblaster made them for me to buy. I have the green ones too. I have a pole with a Qbeam below a green tube. The qbeam is about 2 1/2' deep and the green right on top. I have caught more on this light than the plain qbeam. I like the way the green helps me see my lines. I think I might make both qbeams like that.

Been trying to think of something to transport the Qbeam in to keep the bulb from getting beat up. Any ideas? Also, you say a green tube. Is it another type of drop down light that has a green lens or is it a green bulb? Really liking this night stalking...you don't get as hot and can be done during the week with out work getting in the way.

The ole noodle...the kind kids swim with...$1.50. Just cut it down one side. you can wrap the cord around it so it won't fall out.... that is how I pack mine.

On the same shelf with the qbeam should be the same ones I have from walmart. They are flouresent(sp) tubes with a 15'cord. It has a place to clip a sinker to drop it. I just barely put it below the surface with the qbeam a few feet below it inline. I like the way the green light helps humans see better under the water. This way may be silly but I catch crappie so it pleases me.
Summer nights are great on the river. Low traffic and low temps. Smooth water. Moon light. The sounds in the quietness. I love night fishing in the summer. well anytime of year. No traffic when the temp drops below 32 and we never worry about frozen lakes here in dixie.

Good idea, Smitty. I use a piece of foam pipe insulation. Good luck on your trip down south. Let us know how it went when you get back.

Another way to do it, which is what I do is to take a piece of PVC that matches the size of the light. I have a piece of PVC that the light slides into perfectly, and actually I ran the light all the way through it so the light is on one side and the clips are out the other side. Then, I place the PVC into a rod holder and hook up the battery....and you already have the light over the side of the boat a few feet. Once you are done, you pull the cord back and slide the light back into the PVC, wrap the wire around the PVC, and you are set to travel.

That works for me anyhow......
