Experimenting with Materials.....
I've found good uses for two materials. The first is gift bag shredding used for stuffing gift bags....often available at the Dollar Tree stores. Voila is the brand name and it comes in silver, gold, and red. Had the best luck with jigs tied with silver and red. I'm thinking it's a mylar material.
The second will be currently hard to find, but worth the effort. Someone nearby may have some left over from Christmas. It's the holographic icicles sold this year at Wal Mart....they come in gold, silver and a fine assortment pack. Brand name is Holiday Time. Excellent material behaving like holographic flashabou, only much wider. Two bucks a pack, but you get a lot.
Another Material to Experiment With
The smaller feather dusters at Dollar Tree have translucent strands and are good for tying jigs. They tend to kink un use, but I dry mine after use and slip them into small ziplock baggies to help press down the kinks. Great for multi colored skirts... They come in assorted colors. If you'd like to try just a few, get the larger feather duster...cheap at a buck.
