Are they too big?

I know, it is funny but I honestly want to know if they are too big. They are on a 1/8 hooksup jig head #1/0 red hook from 1aB. From what I have found the hook isn't too big but maybe the eyes need to be a little smaller.
The eyes are 6x8mm so that gives and idea of the size of the head. To be honest, I think in the right pattern it might be a good size eye for the head.
Honestly,I think they are too big.Definitely to big for crappie.Might be ok for steelhead or salmon.

The fish may see them as being a colorful head rather than an eye. I'd give them a good try before making them smaller....if nothing else you could add a plastic worm and create a snake type lure for smallmouth and largemouth. Sometimes inventions come about as so called "accidents"......you may be on to something good... I'd like to see your outcome in another post later on....it would also be good to post one of your pictures with the post, just for refresher. Thanks, and Good Fishing, Mac
I've made "snakes" by slipping a large glass bead in front of a ribbontailed worm and gotten some fine bass in the past. Didn't seem to matter the glass was differently colored than the rest of the body....red bead, green pumpkin worm.
I would make a couple with both eyes red, mainly because of my red bead head experience above....other than that, I'd sure try them out.
I have a few of the hookup heads from leadfreejigheads.com also.
I also don't think they are too big, I once caught crappie on a 5 inch fat tube with a 3/0 hook. Crappies have big mouths....a 1/0 shouldn't be too big in my humble opinion.

I figured they were too big but had to post them anyway. Might do one or two for snake patterns or salt water but not very many. I think even steelhead would run from it.
As for the hook size, I am sure it is not too big but is pretty heavy for my shallow waters. Might get a bass to hit a pattern on it and maybe a crappie but I think smaller is gonna be better here.
I didn't glue them on yet thankfully. A little spit goes a long way to get them to stick and take the picture.
I know there are some salt water patterns that will be killer with this size eye though.
Man why do you have the collar on the jig heads? Are they for soft plastics?

The collar is there for my crochet and for other reasons. For the crochet it means I don't have to use as much material to get the look I need. For jig tying, the same thing. Larger base for making larger bodies toward the head.
This is true. I guess it can't hurt to try a couple with these big eyes. I am gonna get some smaller ones simply because I am not sure I can glue these to the jig head. I think a round 5mm will work a little better and will be easier to glue on. Or maybe some holographic tape cut to shape will work better.Quote:
