Saline River report
I just could'nt stand sitting in the house in longer with the beautiful weather today so i loaded up the boat and went down to the saline for about 3 hours this afternoon and caught around 15 crappie with 10 keepers and 3 nice green carp on pink and white tube jigs. it was fun to get out of the house and catch a few to heat up the grease on such a great day for this time of year.

Hey Rieve, what part of the Saline did you fish, I really want to learn how to crappie fish the Saline around here. I used to bass fish it alot, really love to float and fish with no boat traffic.

Thanks for the report, Rieve. Glad somebody's catchin' those crappie. Any word on the river at Pine Bluff lately? May need to drag my boat to work one day.

L.A. Stumpjumper I was fishing around the highway 167 access about 15 miles south of sheridan. I have had success their several times and it is really a beautiful place and is close to my house. I usually catch the crappie in the bends or coves of the river where the current is blocked but havn't really tried fishing in the current because it is so swift. caught the crappie today in 4-6 foot of water in one spot and 6-10 foot of water in another. i really am just discovering how great the saline is and i will probably began fishing it more often. btw i also tried some minnows today but the jig was just outfishing the minnow today. Several locals around say they tear the crappie up nearly year round if the river is at the right flow.

Ceb i went to the river at Pine Bluff last weekend and things had really slowed down in fact i only caught 2 in about 3 hours before i decided to quit. Maybe they will pick up soon and if they do and i find out i will let you know.

I have a couple of friends who live at Longview right on the Saline river (near Johnsville) who catch Crappie all year. I want to fish that river but just never have....it is a beautiful place and very peaceful.....not a lot of places like it left. There is a good concrete ramp at Longview big enough for a large boat. I will probably try it for Crappie in the near future. I'm told that when the Mayflies hatch out there is some very fine flyfishing for Bream on the Saline.

Hello,
I am new to this forum, but love crappie fishing, and am excited to have found it.
I lived at Longview for a few months, and caught a few crappie. I had better luck with catfish and large brim. The most consistent place I found to catch crappie was around the pylons of the bridge. Fish deep with minnows. Crickets work too oddly enough. Other than that, it was hit or miss for me fishing the tops. The locls there know the "spots", but are kinda stingy about telling where they are.

i am not familiar with that area but around here i fish in areas where the current is not as strong such as the insides of bends and small coves if you can find one. i also look for decent structure such as fallen trees or those bushes that grow along the water not sure what they are called. and i usually use jigs in the river but minnow prbly will work too good luck.
