Do any of you tie vertical jigs - by vertical - I mean the orientation of the hook in the water - most every thing else I've seen posted here has been horizantal jigs....
I found some verticals at a local store last fall, and dug them out on Sat. to play with. These I assume were cast using a JC-6-1632 mold, or something very similar.
There isn't alot of room on the hook, so I kept the dressings small.
Comments? How you tie them - your experience when you've used them....

What make them vertical other than taking the picture with them pointing up? Do they sit like that in the water? I can't see why and what makes them any different??

skip, the eye of the hook is straight, not a 90 degree like crappie jigs. they are not normally used for vertical jigging. they are more popular for casting.
this type jig is not normally tied just tipped with live bait. good in cold water or ice fishing. yes we fish them vertical most of the time. 1/32 nd or smaller.

I vertical jig with my crappie jigs. Granted I have not done a lot of it for crappie but I do it all the time fishing Lilly pads and thick weed mats as well as rocks and thick structure.
Simply tie the hook on using a different know that holds the jig vertical instead of horizontal. Makes it flair up and down standing straight up. The know is hard to explain but I will see if I can the instructions again that I learned from. Is basically a double loop cinch knot where one loop is on the eye and the other goes around it. I imagine there is a way to do this with a drop loop but I don't know how.
I do like those though all head and a little live bait wold make it easier to jig thick spots and not get hung up as much.

Yodibuzz: Thanks for the info - the yellow/green were labeled 1/32oz, while the orange/yellow were labeled 1/16 - a misprint for one of them, as they looked to be the same size. Did not weigh them. I've got some that are super small - maybe 1/100 or smaller that I use on the ice, nothing this big.
Skip: Senior moments are hitting me all to often - can't seem to remember where my keys, my glasses, my <insert-object-of-your-choice-here> are, etc.

they look great tied up. i would still tip with a maggot are wax worm and hang on.
great for perch, bluegills and crappie in cold water. they really do have a unique action.
