structure,biodegradible

I think structure should be made of biodegradible materials only. Also what if every body and there brother is sinking trees,can there be to many.What about the guys who like to troll crankbaits. To many of a good thing to one person, may be bad to another. I will say I am going to build some wood ones,with concrete base. Put a hole in one of the uprights so you can lower down with a double rope,then just pull the rope out with one end,no knots.

Well without cover you will not have as many fish to troll for. Also baits don't hang much on stakebeds the way I build them . You'll catch more trolling past cover most of the time.;)

I dont like the idea of sinking plastics and what not either but here in Ca almost no one sinks cover. If i hit the lake with a boat load of xmas trees id probably be arrested. I like the idea of wood epically larger wood that will hold up over time as well as house crayfish and insects , not just be cover. I saw one pic on here a while back of a slew that went dry and there were pvc structures, kind of made it look like a garbage dump.

Some plastics, depending on the design, are very beneficial and will last nearly forever. The U of Georgia pages when I was googling "fish attractors" have some good plastics that protect minnows and smaller fish from being prey as they provide a myriad of holes the smaller fish can go into in flight from the attacker. They can also be quite hook proof if constructed properly. I recently designed a couple attractor/spawning stations I think would work very well, but have run into a roadblock as the TVA here in Tennessee will not allow plastics of any sort in the reservoirs, natural materials only....so I'll be testing with permission in private ponds. I agree it can be overdone, but also when you see alot of them, they will soon be overgrown with mold and small aquatic plants, benefitting minnows and the food chain as well as the fishing benefits by larger fish using the shade. The great thing about plastics is they can be used forever and can be moved to better locations from time to time. Overdone, it's very much like robbor states.

you say the TVA will not allow for plastic (PVC) to be put in any of the TVA lakes? Taht is the first I have heard of that. I know of many fish attractors that have been put into Old Hickory, Percy Priest and other lakes by the TWRA that are made out of PVC. Surely they would not use it if it was against the law.

Not allowed in Tellico Reservoir, Eastern Tennessee, according to the email I received from TVA, stated natural materials only. I can only speak from my experience, have no ideas about other reservoirs. I made the mistake of thinking the ban included all TVA waters...my mistake apparently, sorry. Good Fishing, Mac

The TWRA had approved of our plans and had granted us the permission to plant, then while checking out material with the EPA, we got a polite letter from TVA stating the natural material necessity.

old hickory and priest are not goverened by TVA. they are instead controlled by the Corps of Engineers.
