question about how to connect cable to battery

hey guys, need a little help.
I have a garmin 240 fishfinder. The cable included has very small red and black wires that are to be connected to the battery. The battery I am using has the threaded post which has a wing nut on each one.
How should I connect this small wire (24gauge?) to this post?

I have tried finding a ring shaped adapter to slide over the post but the opposite end that crimps down onto the wire is too large, it wont hold the small wire tight enough.
Any help would be appreciated.

Any auto parts store should have a crimp on ring adapter that will work. Get the smallest one they have that will fit your post and if the wire is loose in the crimp, double or triple etc. the wire so you get a good hold when you do crimp it. Couple of drops of solder after you crimp wont hurt either. Billy

also you could solder it

hook it to your fuse block with a push on connector, then you will have protection also.

that didn't have a fuse block. I made up a couple of 'remote' terminals. One mounted in the back and one in the front that allowed me to terminate smaller wires. Sounds like a lot of work, but not really. If you are interested in more detail PM me.

You should always have a fuse on spower line to unit, never know when or what is goin give U a power surge,798 should have a 3 amp fuse.last I heard.

Small wires do not crimp good unless with a professional grade crimper. I would suggest stripping the wire double length, then fold wire back and twist. This makes the wires twice the size to put in the crimp barrel.

You could solder the wires after twisting, then solder the wires after the crimp to the terminal barrel.

By using solder, it makes the joint solid and more corrosive resistant. Crimped (only) connections hold moisture and eventually corrode.

After you solder, grease the terminal good with bulb grease. This further reduces possible corrosion.

Make sense?

The fuse only protects the wire. No fuse will fully protect electronic equipment.

HB fuses all their head units 3A. Protect wire. No fire.
