Another Sickle Question

Ok, so Ive never poured my own jigs with Sickle hooks. I want to. Ive been using a Eagle Claw #6 on the 1/32 and 1/16. I recently went with a #4 in the 1/32 and 1/16th.....I like the #4 in 1/32 and think I want a #2 in 1/16. Confusing I know.....

The mold CALLS for a #6 and a #4 in the Eagle Claw

I WANT a #4 and a #2 in Eagle Claw (if I have to)

I REALLY WANT that equivellant in a Matzuo Sickle Hook.

Will it work, if so, what do I need to achieve those sizes? I think I read where the #6 Sickle was like the gap of a #4 Eagle Claw.

Im all discombobulated.

Ive got the Round Head Jig RHB-8-1632 mold right now (with a collar, that I cut off). Until I can convence the better half to let me part with the $45 or $90 to get a Pro 101 in a 1/32 and possibly 1/16th later on.

These are Do-It molds. Hope you guys understand my odd question.

Wish I could help, but I don't pour my own. However I do fish with Sickle hooks and for me, I don't see a need for anything bigger than a #4 until maybe and just maybe in a 1/8 or 1/4 which I still mostly use a #4 Sickle hook. I do also use regular bend hooks by Matuzo because of how sharp they make their hooks. Not a fan of the other brands.

don't know but I have that exact same mold and use the #4 sickles all the time with no problem. Of course I have had the mold for 30 yrs but I doubt it has changed much, if any.

If you want a 1/16 without a collar that will pour a #2 sickle hook you need to get a DO-IT MOLD MODEL JNR-1062.It is a mold that will pour sickles in size 1,2 and 4 in 1/16 and 1/8.You can pour 4 of each at a time.The pro mold in 1/16 will only take a #4 unless you can find some short shank #2 jig hooks.As for the 1/32 and 1/16 without a collar i'd get a JNR-8-1632 which doesn't have a collar,pours 4 of each size in a #6 or #4 hook.BARLOW'S 2008 Catalog lists both of these molds at $29.61 each.I hope that this helps you.

Exactly what I wanted to see.

Like to mention that Sickle hooks had a problem with unequal leg lengths which is the short straight section of hook between shank & eye. Last year batches of black chrome #6 and #2 I got were not standard - #6 leg too short and #2 leg too long. JJJ is right, JNRs are more user friendly than Pro-101s, and might be more accomodating of off size hooks. So if your Sickles have a WTF bad fit, a modification to the mold eye slot could improve it. A previous posting addressed the short leg #6.

Better fitting a long leg #2 would require a hook eye slot extension in the opposite direction away from the head.
