Crappie fishing on Allatoona

Hi all, I am looking to take my kids fishing and am new to the area. I was raised in michigan so i have had my share of crappie meals!. I was wondering where a good spot would be to place my kids into some action. Would bobbers and nightcrawlers suffice here in the south or do i utilize another method?

I live near lake lanier but have heard that allatoona is no joke when it comes to crappie..Ive searched for smaller lakes in the area, but cannot seem to find any.

BTW...I have no boat, so shore fishing is my only option. You'll probably tell me that its to hot and that I need to get out deep :)

dont know anything about those lakes but if there is a bridge you could git to or a publick pier to fish off of would be your best bet . http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.c...21&Y=17693&W=2. you can search a lake with this to find the bridges and piers . or git a lake map . talk to lokle bate shop .
this is lake blacksher . you can see the t shaped dock in that creek it is at the state park and people fish off it all the time night and day . the creek just north as you come in has a walkway that people fish off even at night . as far as bait most use minnows for crappie fishing or jigs like hal- fly .and this kaline jig has worked at night around docks with light.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...e/acidrain.gifblack with chartruce tail in the daytime

Hey. Altoona has a lot of crappie. The area around the dam holds bait fish and so the game fish are there as well.
I haven't fish there in years (I'm near West Point these days) but Altoona is a great lake. The local folks can best tell you about what works and when they bite. But find the dam and go talk to some anglers down there.

You guys are great...I really appreciate the time. I think I will drive up there this weekend and take a look around. May be difficult to do as i will be shore fishing, but I am sure there are some sweet shoreline spots by the damn
