That looks good to me.I just called my father yesterday and asked him for his old tobbacco stick but he said he still uses his for tomatoes.I had the same idea you got there.I have gotten cabin fever and ready to get back at the water.
ok....what exactly is a tobacco stick ?
That's a mighty good looking stake bed you've got there. How do you intend on sinking it?
Looks good, just needs rocks wedged in to sink. I fish water 3 to 8' most of the time and make mine shorter. Deeper water may call for taller stakes. The problem I had with taller stakes was they are harder to handle without breaking them while placing pallet. Again they look fishy.:D
to sink them i will put 6 to 8 bricks between the slats on the pallet.a tobacco stick is a 1.5 inch by 1.5 inch stick 4.5 feet long usually made from oak or hickory.made for hanging tobacco in a barn.tobacco farmers use these sticks to spike it on,u put a metal spike that fits over one end of the stick on and shove the stalk of tobacco plant down onto the spike and onto the stick,u get 5 to 8 plants on the stick .then hang up into a barn
Ive seen it hung ,never new that was how, thanks for clearing that up.
I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for explaining. Since those are made from oak or hickory they should last for a while. Better than the softwoods at least.
I wish I could find pallets like my dad used to bring home. They were made from nothing but oak. Heavy as could be....but they would make great stake beds now.
i can get bricks and blocks free from my work, thats also where the pallets come from
