OK boys & girls .... it's official

KDFWR has defined the "Possession Limit". The 2009 Fishing/Boating Regs now states that :

"New This Year" ... (pg 4)
"Possession limits are now standardized as two times the daily creel limit, for all fish species with a daily creel limit. A person shall not possess more than one daily limit of processed or unprocessed fish while fishing on the shoreline or on the water. Processed fish do not count towards the possession limit."

"Definitions" ... (pg 46)

"Possession Limit ... is the maximum number of unprocessed fish a person may hold in the field after two or more days of fishing."

"Daily Limit ... is the maximum number of a particular species or group of species a person may legally keep in a calendar day or have in possession while fishing."

These laws tell me two things :

I can have processed fish, in my possession, at my camp/room, that equal a daily limit times the number of consecutive days I've been fishing .... but cannot have processed or unprocessed fish that equals more than one days limit, while I am actively fishing (whether by boat or on shore).

A "day" is defined as a "calendar day" ... which is from Midnight to Midnight ... so my daily creel limit must be caught between those hours.

This reg makes alot of sense. I wish other states would follow Ky on possession limits

I never really worried about it anyway. I always clean my fish after each day and the fish are then either cooked or frozen.

but, prior to this "interpretation" ... two days limit was the max possession limit for two OR MORE days consecutive fishing, cleaned or not :eek:

I never worried about it, either, but for other reasons ;) .... I rarely fished more than one day at a time, in KY waters, and rarely, if ever, limited out :p

This is amazing. This is a major (commonsense!) change in the law. It clearly defines the obligation of the fisherman and is not ambiguous.

Cut and dry rules, there must be somethng wroing there! LMAO.

That rule has actually been the same up here for a long time but never defined well until last year or the year before. I could cut the rules seciton in half and make them 10x times easier to read I swear.

Try up here, one pole, one line and only up to 3 hooks for all upland species. 1 hook for other species like sturgeon.
