cane water tolerance

Need some advice please.
I reaaaally really want to build some structure for a place that I know would work and I can make it for next to nothing having access to all the cane I could want. Some of it is close to three inches in diameter at the base and well over 15' tall. Now I know this stuff won't last as long as boo but I'm wondering if it would basically be moot to even try. If its not gonna last a year, there's no purpose in purchasing the crete.
also, if I were to use it, it's gonna be cut in sections b/c I only want 10 ft (I think) of it, cut for base up use or top down use?

Should last several years, but if you use butt end of cane it takes more weight to sink as it hold air in each section of the cane.

Cane is bamboo. It is our native bamboo, and I understand that there are 2 native varieties. Some people may have some ornamental foreign bamboo in their yards, but the cane growing around creeks, the bottoms, etc. is one of 2 varieties of native bamboo. Actually even though I knew it was bamboo, I never heard any one around this part of Arkansas call it anything other than cane.

I use cane to make stake beds and they last for years. I cut them in 9ft sections and use a PVC driver to drive them into the bottom about 2 foot. A nice trick is take a piece of re-bar and punch out the center of the canes so they do not hold air. Also cut one end of the cane at a 45 degree angle so they drive better.
