Don't know if they are the same type of hull design as a Ranger, but a friend mounted his inside the cutout just in front of the motor. Stays in the water even when running. This is the main problem I have since I have an aluminum boat and have the ducer mounted on the transom. Have problems with getting readings when going over 10mph. Being where his is mounted protects the unit from damage. Hope this helps
I have a 2004 Lowe 180w with a step hull. I first had my transducer mounted about 16 inches starboard of the centerline of the boat. Two problems. 1. when running on plane you loose signal. 2. When side scanning I got some bubble interference fro the turbulent water from the step.
I got a plastic mounting plate at Gander mountain and cut it to fit the angle of my step. I then mounted my transducer on it. Stays in the water all the time. I am about 1' to the starboard of the centerline of the boat & get 0 interference. I have a buddy that has a 997 on a ranger and he also mounted closr to the motor on the step. His works good to. No way would I mount it above the step. I'll try to post a picture of mine tomorrow.
