There is a small drainage ditch/cannal that feeds into lake trafford.Yesterday there seemed to be some sort of feeding frenzy going on.
Lots of splashes up to fist size.Something either feeding off the surface or just under and the tails breaking the surface.
Never seen crappie or gills do this-and it wasn't the wakes from schooling baitfish,but they were schooled up.Maybe 50 splashes at a time in a 50 sq. yard area.
I'm thinking maybe juvie talapia???:confused:
I have seen the armored cat fish do this in the Wekiva...
The lake I fish in, the crappie does(Crashing the surface) that during the hatch(bug larve)
I have seen carp do this in the outlets of streams to the main river. Feeding on new hatches and simply making a total ruckuss on the surface. Throw a small float on and a short leader and try to catch a few of whatever they are next time.

I saw some fish doing that the other day also.
Some of em even came out of the water, and, the way they wiggled while airborne (just slightly out of the water, just for a second), reminded me of them being small catfish, perhaps 8-10-12 inches. Just the way their bodies seemed to be, longer and slimmer than a crappie, etc, etc...
i think they might be armored catfish.Ive been out in the everglades time after time and seen armored catfish hittin the surface like that.They get so thick at times you can almost walk on them.Theres a big group of guatamalians that go and castnet them to make soup.
