I have a Garmin E-trex GPS. I bought it mainly for grouse hunting. It's not that I get lost while hunting, but I have a heck of a time trying to figure out where I left the truck at the end of the day. It works fine for that and for finding the launch ramps at the bigger lakes after dark or if fog rolls in especially on lake Erie.

My problem is the speed indicator. I haven't used it in a while but the speed indicator seems to quit working at around 1.9 or 2.0 mph. I do like to long line troll sometimes and would like something to be able to read speeds alot slower than this. Is there something out there in a hand held model that will read the slower speeds like maybe .5 or .6 mph.

I'd like to keep the cost down, but I really don't know what to expect. Also the accuracy seems close but could be better. Accuracy within 30' is okay to find a pick-up truck or a launch ramp, but to find a stump in open water it's a little loose. Any suggestions?

I see articles where some guys claim to be going .9 mph, how do they know? Any other ideas to track speed?

I am not privy to this info from manufacturer. I feel your pain. My Humminbird 997 gps draws a red anus circle when you get too slow (slow trolling). It is hard to navigate with a circle. You know going around in circles don't get you anywhere and circles just ain't got no starting or stopping point. HB needs to put and arrow inside that red anus circle to comfort and appease me.

I believe some gps units just present an average speed display and direction to comfort us. Speed averaging. I am SWAGING.

I used a garmin e-trex for several winters in FL. --slow trolling and it almost always would read down to .5 or .6 --don,t believe that was the actual speed but you could tell if you were holding or + or - .really the only thing you need to know is what speed you are catching them at and being able to hold that speed--

same here i used a etex for a couple years read down to .4

Sometimes I'll be catching and my speed is slower than my GPS will read, the speed is just blank. I was just hoping there was (cheap) model that would be more accurate.

Maybe, I'll have to play with mine some more this year. I see the last 2 post say that theirs will go that slow. Maybe I need to give it another try.
