i guess i would be willing to let you field test my etex for a while just be sure to leave plenty of new way-points on it when you give it back,,,,,,the only dislike i have for it is you have to use garmin maps,,but that may have changed iam not sure
Pretty sure you still have to use the Garmin maps, not 100% though.
Another vote for the Garmin 76 series. However, if you already have Lowrance GPS, you might want to consider the Lowrance H20 or H20C if you have the software/mapping stuff already.

If buying a handheld this time of year ask seller if model will be offered for 2009 as a lot of the lower price model lines are being discontinued for 2009 GPSmap 76 & 76s are going out(76cs&csx stay) as are most etrex's. Garmin says they will still support this phased out models but who knows for how long and other manufacturers may not support their old models.
Garmin GPS, Magellan GPS, Lowrance GPS & RAM Mount Factory Authorized Dealer - GPS City had alist on their site of discontinued for 2009 models but its missing today???sorry.
I am partial to the 76 CSX. It is best for me cause it is waterproof and FLOATS! You can find some really good prces if you look around a bit. Wallyworld had them the cheapest online when I was looking, but ended up getting it local for about the same price and didn't have to pay shipping.
