For all types of panfishing, I'd say 1/16th oz #4 hook or 1/32nd oz #6 hook. For other fish I go 1/4th oz #2/0 tinned hook (I use lots of jigheads in saltwater, some largemouth in freshwater, ect).

Almost all my jig heads had Matuzo hooks, sickle and regular bend. I even have some 1/80 in regular bend #6. I have most every size head with #4 & #6 in both Sickle and regular bend. I keep more #4 than anything from 1/32 through 1/8 and mostly #4 for 1/4. I do keep some 1/8 & 1/4 with #1 Sickle hooks for bass guys or people that just like a big hook for crappie, but that #1 Sickle is a big hook.
I like to go down to a #8 for bream which I have in heads from 1/80 to 1/8 oz.

I use 1/8 and 1/4 mostly #4 sickle even on the 1/4.
Gosh Flat, If I could just have one jig to do it all. It'd have to be a 1/24 oz with a #6 sickle. That way you could troll, float fish, and shoot docks all with the same jig as well as vertical jig the brush piles. The hook would be small enough for bream but the gap would be wide enough for crappie and bass. The weight is light enough to not sink like a rock but heavy enough to get to 12 or 14 feet before you are ready for the nursing home. It ain't the best for all situations but it would work o.k. in almost all situations......just a workin man's opinionQuote:
