Taking snapshots and transferring

Could someone give me some advice on what you all use to get these great pics from your unit to your computer? Do you use a regular memory card such as the ones sold for digital cameras? I have a couple of those but dont know if thats what I need...they do fit in my 997 slot just fine. Do they work? Second...once I take the snapshots and go to my computer what kind of map card reader do i need to buy to hook into my computer? Do you just buy one and hook it into your USB port on the puter and then transfer? Thanks in advance.

sd cards. Same as camera. Your computer have a sd card slot? If not, then you need a sd card reader. The higher the speed of the sd, the faster the SI can process a snapshot.

There are numerous ways to retrieve sd images from the sd card.

Usually when you plug a sd card in the reader, windows asks you if you if you want to transfer the images. click ok, but remember where windows puts the pics. The SI snapshots are just PNG images.

(I am referring to the windows scanner and camera wizard, so select it)

Then you gotta erase what you dont want off the sd card. That's another story.

Cane..thats good info. The only thing I have a question on in what you said is the part about the speed of the sd. Do you mean that those little cards have speed ratings? I see on this litttle kodak card I have here that I use in my camera that is is a 2GB. But that refers to size..not speed. Could you elaborate?

Remember the CDs? First the CD, then 2X CD, the 4X CD, etc. Same deal here. It is the data transfer rate. If the sd card has 50X on the label, it theoretically is capable of 50 times the data transfer rate of the original.

If you have a regular sd and take a snapshot, it takes lots more time to render the snapshot than say a 100x sd. You can actually see the difference on the screen between the 2 speeds when snap shooting.

speed is written on sd (like 100X). Same as old CD....

I just purchased a 798c & put a Sandisk 8GB SD HC card in it. There is no speed written on the card or the package. It does say take more video.
Does the HC mean high capacity or does it also have to do with the speed?
I also am new to this , so any light you can shed might help carppoop as well as me. (not trying to highjack a post)

I never knew they had different speeds. This little kodak 2GB I have here doesnt list any speed that I can see. Ill check out best buy and see what they have.

As far as SDHC SanDisk cards there is a base? model I don't use or know then
The SanDisk Ultra II card is a 100x speed equals 15mb/sec.
The SanDisk Extreme III card is a 133x speed equals 20mb/sec
The extreme card seems to process a pict about twice as fast as the Ultra II, press mark, count one, two, then pict is done, before U can usually say three.
I don't use any other brand of card then SanDisk because in early spring of 07 some folks reported problems with offname type cards, seems as tho the cards would work maybe once then not work a second time, sometimes reformating helped other times no help, but SanDisk cards always worked so being lazy I took/take the easy way & use SanDisk, over two seasons of pict taking & never a card problem except time I forgot the card>>>>>>>>>:eek:

I use the Sandisk Extreme III, 2 gig. 133x. It fast and no problems except I fill it up too much and managed to screw up the card slot taking it in and out so much. Wish HB PC would let me transfer the images. Wouldn't screw up the slots. They seem delicate.
