Anyone heard any reports from Johnathon Creek (south side of bridge) drift fishin?
Thinking about a Turkey Day trip to KY Lake and am also looking for a report.I would suspect not too many brave soles have been out and about with the weather the last week or so but if you have a report please post, good or bad.Went down there last year about the same time and found enough fish to keep us passified but the weather this November has been alot cooler. The weather looks fairly good for Wed-Friday so I will probibally head that way unless something unforseen happens.
I will keep you posted if I hear anything. A friend of mines son lives and fishes that section of JC. I will give them a call and see if they have any info.
I have been fish'n the north end and catching limits consistantly for the last week or so dispite the bad weather.
Vertical jig'n 3/32 oz jigs (Painted Chartruse)with 2" yellow and chartruse southern pro little hussler tubes (pumped up with nibblets) 9' deep on brush in 12.5 to 14' of water in the bays. Had to weed thru a ton of dinks to get a limit.
Best bite seems to be between 9:30 and 2:00.
Good luck.
Leaving at 5 in the morning. Will report back on Friday or Sat.
Took my Dad today (Friday) to Jonathan. We cleaned 33. Fish did better behind the bridge than out front. Caught most of them in 6 to 8 feet of water. No hot color. Fish seemed to be scattered. Turned out to be a nice day. Started out with a little North wind but it calmed down to "smooth as glass" water.
Fished 2 days for 23 keepers,Hoped to do better but no such luck.Oh well beautiful weather and hardly no wind stll made for a good time.KY lake kicked my butt this time but can't wait to go back!
Hey slabdaddy, what does your rig look like. I probably saw you out there. I was in the silver and maroon Ranger with a Yamaha hangin' of the back.
Sixfin,I doubt you seen me because we fished blood and ledbetter. We fish jonathan some but not near as much as Blood River. If you ever see a maroon and silver 219 Stratos on Jonathan stop and say hello. This time of the year I mainly fish with minnows because I can't seem to catch them on plastic and I see you are catching them on plastic. Are you spider rigging or vertical jigging with one pole.I'm 225 miles from Ky Lake and don't get down there as much as I would like but all the info you locals give me helps alot.I would like to learn to catch them this time of year because you don't have the crowd of boats that are there in the spring. Thanks!
Slab,
I verticle jig (love to feel that thump) and I only use plastics. I give up on minners a long time ago. There are days i know they would be better but I just don't like messin' with them. Plus with all the different colors available now in plastics I can usually find a color they want. As far as catchin' this time of year, I just hit different spots at different depths and once I find them, I go and fish the other beds we got in that particular depth. Most people tend to think that all the crappie go deep during the winter but as you can see, we found them in 6'-8' of water. When you get them warm spells with some sun in the winter , the fish go back to shallower water chasing after the shad and the shad seem to like the flats better than the drops when this happens.
