Taylorsville

Hello to all,

I am new to this site, but have been referring to it for information on new techniques and lake information. I primarily fish Taylorsville Lake for anything that will hit the bait, but have been especially impressed not on size of crappie but numbers and how they hold tight to the cover. I have fished the Miss. ox-bow lakes and marsh canals in Louisiana and seen fish hold tight to timber and grass lines, but this beats the heck out of me. Anybody have any suggestions on KY or Barkley lake winter crappie? Again, thanks for the information. Good fishin'

and as to the cover hugging Crappie of Taylorsville ... if you had big Blue & Channel Catfish, Largemouth Bass, and Hybrid Stripers hanging around, wouldn't you hug the cover tightly :p

Seriously though ... you're right, they do like to stay close to the wood cover. That's one big reason for me having gone to using weedless jigheads ;)

Now, as for KY/Barkley winter Crappie .... can't help you much there, with personal experience, but read thru this : Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources - Kentucky Lake - Crappie Movement Study and see if it gives you any indication of where they might tend to be, during the Winter months.

Thanks for the info and the link. Very informative. What I can read, seems over at KY lake almost similar to the Miss. River due to the water fluctuation. Does anybody agree with that or have any other info?

Hi Transplant from another Ky boy. Some of the best fishing that I have ever had came from winter fishing on Ky Lake. Ledges in 17-25ft of water.

Good to have ya here Transplant. Wish I could help you out on Ky lake but don't get there near often enough myself.

thanks for the welcome. Well, I think I will try out the T-lake on thursday morning gonna be cold. When I was at the WMA Saturday looked like the rain was not/ did not discolor the water to bad. I am sure this fish are scattered but who knows until you get there. Will post a update then. Until then

Good luck on T-ville. The fish will bite most of the winter over there under stable water/weather conditions. Some trees hold fish and some don't. We usually fish minnows under slip floats 8 to 14 feet deep. Let us know how it turns out, and stay warm.
