real wood

Nothing works any better than real wood in my opinion.;) Whether it is a stakebed made of pallets or a Persimmon top. I caught some nice fish yesterday out of a top just put out in the last two weeks.
I sunk more pallets and changed up my method to reduce work building them. Staggered cuting them into and nailed the halves together. Screwed on a plastic bucket. Filled it 1/2 with rock and poured enough concrete to keep the rocks in the bucket. Forgot to snap a picture before sinking them. Maybe the next load I can snap a picture.;)

Have you ever gotten out in chest waders and driven the stakes in with a driver? It makes it a lot easier for me since my boat is small but I can carry a lot stakes.
I also agree with you on real wood versus PVC. I catch some fish on my PVC spots but not nearly as many as real wood. I don't understand their little brains but I can tell you wood will have more fish.
It's a real kick for people to pass by real slow in January and see me in the water driving stakes.

That is funny, i had the same thought a few days ago and did a few that way. I will snap apic or 2 and post them to see if that is what you are talking about.

Also, why not weave 15-20 stalks of boo in thru the slats of the pallet into the middle, and let the boo float up with the pallet as a "mat" and weight it with a bucket? (another pic in a day or 2)

Just my opinion , but anything closer than 8'' spacing is a waste. The little ones take over the thick stuff. I build stakebeds out of pallets with over 1' spacing sometimes. I flip a pallet up side down and nail three or four rows of 2' stakes spaced about a foot apart. Then wedge rocks inside the pallet to sink it. The big Slabs love to set right down in the hollow created by the pallet.
I cut some pallets into and connected with boards to make a box type structure . These need blocks or buckets of rocks/concrete to sink. I perfer fishing the short stake beds and the are easier to build.
I think adding bamboo to a wooden stucture is over kill. It's not needed , attracts small fish and hangs jigs.

Our lake level changes alot and 5 to 8' water is where most of my structure winds up. That's too deep for wading and diffacult from a boat. I like the pallet method to affix my stakes to. The big slabs love to set down in the open part of the pallet. I only put stakes 2' tall as the fish seem to hold low anyway. Reduces hang ups and easier to fee when you do. Thinking in low water or unstable springs our fish utilize the pallets for spawning too.

Good idea on flippin' 'em up-side-down and wedge rocks to sink.

I'll have to give that a thought for my neck of the woods. I reckon with clear water I'd need to go to 10-12 feet, don't you think?
