This past weekend was a bust for me, looked into "moon phase" in hopes of improving.....
fellow I work with has a Garmen GPS has celestial info , shows what time best.........
Choosing The Best Fishing Times
There really is nothing complicated about this at all; it's just a matter of knowing ahead of time exactly when the sun and moon will rise and set. Fish are most active during 90-minute windows surrounding each of these four daily events; that's 45 minutes before and after these four daily points.
Fishing during these four periods will help increase your fishing catch, but if you plan wisely so as to ensure you're at the water's edge on the days of new or full moon, you can use these 'windows' to reel in a catch like you've never done before. If you have to choose between sunrise/set and moonrise/set, always go with the moon as the moon is the stronger influence.
Hunters have always known that fish and game are most active at dawn and dusk--sunrise and sunset--but their activity surrounding moonrise and moonset is less noticeable because these events are likely to occur without effecting any change in the perceived light. The rise and set of a new moon is invisible anyway, and overcast weather often hides the moon. Without prior knowledge of setting and rising times, two of the best fishing times will be missed every day!
i dont buy into that moon crap.... i have caught fish and have had great days at any hour of day and any phase
Hey Pat, I always follow the moon phases although I have caught fish on any phase...I've noticed that my biggest trophy fish of different species have always come on either the day of the Full Moon, a few days before, or a few days after with No Exceptions...Coincidence?--I think NOT!!!
When I used to fish big bass I kept a log for one whole season. Then i read the book "in pursuit of giant bass", I went back and checked my log for my biggest fish and it was amazing how accurate it was. Most of my big fish came right at the end of the activity period. I dont think little fish are as predictable and they seem to like stable weather. I dont worry about the calender, times, tide ,or moon, I just go fishing.
Yeah you can catch them good anytime but they definitely pay attention to that moon phase. How could you explain the redears goin nuts around the full or new moon in spring? Usually the full moon in april here in arkansas is the kickoff for redear beddin up.I know of at least one lake here that they strictly adhere to this. You may have a few beds pop up before the full moon but when that thing gets right they come in droves.
Same goes for hunting. When I leave the house and the cattle are laying down, I rarely see deer moving. But when they are up feeding, I generally see deer. Works ts way 90% of the time. Go figure!!!!
