Another 997 question
I had planned on purchasing a HB 997 (sometime?). I thought it would be great to cruise a bay and mark brushpiles, stakebeds etc. Then comeback with the GPS and fish the stucture. I am hearing the the gps may be off 25 to 30 feet? What is the complaint about it being "slow"?:confused::confused:
I used a older model Lowrance handheld GPS for years (before WASS) and never had that kind of problem.:eek::eek:

Crappiecrazy....The Sideimaging part of the unit is fascinating. The GPS is an absolute failure. And in order for you to utilize the sideimaging to its potential you need a good GPS. The unit does not have this...not even close. You can read about the details here if you do a search. I paid 2000.00 to humminbird to own one. I love it and I hate it...all at the same time. Your older GPS probably by far outperforms the one on the 997. Do not buy one until the problems are resolved. You will be glad you waited if they fix it.

I was one that didn't wait and regret it. I'm glad I have a Garmin 378 that puts me right on the spot. Maybe they will repair the ones they have sold that don't work when they figure it out. I've only used my 797 once and I couldn't believe how far off the GPS was compared with the Garmin. I downloaded all my spots to the Hummingbird before using it and used both units at the same time. The Garmin was right on every time and the Hummingbird was sending me all different directions.
I hope Hummingbird will make it right.
