vmc jig hooks
I have a question. Have been wanting to try vmc jig hooks in a size 10 and 8. Has anyone here tried them? I was hoping they were a little sharper than the eagle claws and mustads. Also noticed that they are only available thru a few distributors, on a retail basis. Has anyone ordered jig hooks from stamina tackle or captain hooks tackle? They both carry the vmc hooks and I was wondering how the service was with these companies. thanks ya'll

Haven't tried those, but VMC makes a good hook. I use them for saltwater. I have heard good things about Captian Hooks service. Sorry I can't help more.

VMC has always made a good hook I've used them in my bigger ball head jigs 1/4oz and up

update,
havent used them yet but ordered size 8, 6, and 4 and they are sharp as heck, with a longish wicked point. oh yeah ;)

redear,
Have you had a chance to try the VMC's yet? I've used them for years and like them best of all the regular jig hooks.

not yet, I havent poured any heads since I recieved the vmc's. but I can tell ya that they are already my favorite. nothing gets under my skin like recieving a couple hundred hooks that arent quite sharp enough, no worry with the vmc. will post back when I get to using them, won't be long.

You haven't poured them yet!!!! Blasphemy :D:D:D:D I know buddy I haven't poured in about 2 weeks and I feel a head of stem building to get some done.
I pour in my garage which is attached to the house and I like to have all my jigs poured up before the snow starts flying, although that's never stopped me from doing it anyway LOL.

It's a comming! probably pour some 1/16 oval pinky heads for hair jigs, with size 4, and maybe some 1/32 ball head, with size 6 and 8. for hair also. there is a new bass pro shop store that just opened up in ashland va. and I hear it callin my name. they supposed to have a fly tying section. want to get some new colors of hair and thread.

ok ok,
just finished pouring 300 jigheads. 200 were 1/16 oval jigheads with size 4 vmc hooks, and 100 were 1/32 with size 8 vmc hooks, with no collar. the vmc hooks were a joy to use! I did not find one defective hook in the whole bunch. I still can't believe it. no open eyelets, no short legs, no messed up points or barbs, no bent shanks etc. I'm still in denial. and yes they are sharp. tried some of ya'lls tricks this time, and added a piece of candle wax to the pot as well as a piece of solder, 95% tin. did not have one mishapen halfway poured head! even in a cold mold, when getting started. though they were a little harder to get out of the mold, but they were so pretty I didn't care. probably smoke the molds next time with a candle to help with that.
