Beware! Minnkota Quick Nuts

Just givimg everyone a heads up that the MinnKota quick nuts made for mounting your trolling motor where under deck access is not possible are worthless for aluminum boats. I learned this after drilling the called for 5/8" holes in my rail. They require 3/8" or more thickness to mount to. It does not say this anywhere on the packaging and MinnKota will tell you they are sorry but that is all. I was really considering going to a Terrova, but after dealing with them on this mater I don't think so. For me, they had the most awful customer service I have delt with in some time.

Man I hate to hear this kinda stuff.

I thought I had the market cornered on this kinda crap.

Take a hole saw and cut a hole big enough so you can put nuts on the back of the bolts and put an access panel cover over it and it will look it came from the factory. Those things you are talking about don't work very well. You can get the panels from a marine dealer or a boat place.

Possumcop, that is basically what I had to do. It seems to be a way better to fasten it down. I fished today at Sardis Lake in some pretty rough conditions and it worked perfect. Thanks for your help.

If it is still a little shakey, you may have to get a thicher piece of metal and mount it to your boat that is wider than your mount and bolt it to your boat and then mount your trolling motor to the plate. I have set up several boats and have had to do this before. This holds true with boats that have an alluminum deck that I have had to mount pole holders to.

If under deck access is not posssible, how do you mount the aluminum mounting plate?
