You'd have to stay in the main lake channels.
You'd have to have a serious supply of jigs.
You'd probably catch more Hybrid Stripers & White Bass, than Crappie.
It might be some good training, or it might frustrate the heck out of you. I haven't trolled for Crappie, at T-ville, or Spider Rigged for them ... but I have longline trolled small crankbaits, and crankbaits w/jig on a leader, for Hybrids & Whites. I have, on occasion, caught Crappie doing this, but those were very isolated incidents. (and the Crappie were no bigger than what I would normally catch, casting to timber)
I do know of a "jig maker/rod builder", that supposedly has caught some good sized Crappie from T-ville. His method is to use two poles, simultainiously : one pole has a jig on it, and is just hanging over the side -- the other has a jig on it, and he casts it to the timber along the bank. Sorry, but I do not know any specifics on depth, speed, type/size jig, or areas fished. I just have reliable third party say so, on his technique & success ... plus confirmation from the man himself. Sounds reasonable & plausible, as you would be covering two depth ranges at the same time. And, I would almost bet that he uses hand-tied jigs, rather than jigheads/plastics (him being a jig maker ;) ).
Personally, I can't say as I've ever caught a Crappie at Taylorsville, that was more than 15ft deep ... in ANY depth of water, at any time of the year. 8-12 feet deep has been the normal range, from prespawn to Fall. 4-8ft deep seems to be the normal spawntime depth preference. Blowdown trees seem to be their prefered habitat, followed by submerged brush, then isolated spots within standing timber. Deeper banks seem to produce better than shallower ones, and shaded banks/timber are more productive than those with direct sunlight on them.
All this "info" is dated, as I haven't been to T-ville more than a few times, over the last 5 years. So, take it with a grain of salt, and use it with your own discretion.
