Can't help you on the gills ...
but, I'd venture a guess that crickets at slightly above the thermocline, should get you some decent sized ones. Then again, with the Full Moon coming on Friday ... they may be gearing up for another spawn. If so, read thru the first few articles here - smelling bluegill beds - Google Search - and maybe it will help you "smell" your way to the beds ;)
As for Crappie -- read thru this, and check out the info for June, Blood River & Sledd Creek ... the Crappie should be in a similar pattern. It's a starting point, anyway. Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources - Kentucky Lake - Crappie Movement Study
