Cheap Flexament, Make Your Own

For cheap Fleximent...
Flexament is diluted Goop or Shoe Goo. The thinner or solvent is Toluene (Toluol). You can have a lifetime (almost) supply of flexament for about $10. Ace Hdwr. sells Toluene in a quart can for $5-something. A tube of goop is about $4. Squirt some goop in a glass container, then pour in some toluene, and mix it up, let it sit, and mix again until it's dissolved, and you have flexament.

You can use it in place of head cement for the drop you put on the finish or on the thread of a thread neck jig. You can thin it or leave it kind of thick, but it will give you a glue that if flexible and not get brittle. It's used a lot in fly tying, but it also is good on jigs for some things.

With head cement I just do the drop when I use it. However with the Flexament I coat the thread all around.

On chenille jigs one one drop of thinned head cement is all I do. I make my own head cement too though. Gloss Lacquer and MEK for my thinner.
