South Ark crappie?
Well, with this being my second posting (and not having found anything for around here), I was wondering if any of you guys know any good spots around South Arkansas. I'm in Camden, so I know I have to look down the road for a decent drive to get to a good lake.
Went to Lake Columbia last week with no success. Hit a few slot bass on White Oak over the weekend and picked up a couple of cats on Bragg last night. Most of my life I've fished for cats and bass with the occasional rainbow trout fly trip thrown in. I've never even caught a crappie. Actually, until a few weeks ago, I thought they weren't much bigger than bream. LOL
Anyway, I'll be fishing from shore, so I know that'll play a factor. If anyone knows any decent spots within, say, an hour's drive, I'd greatly appreciate the help. :)

hey river shark there is a nice small secluded lake that few people know about called gray's lake. It is about 15 miles north of fordyce and 20 miles south of sheridan. there are decent crappie, bass, catfish, and bream fishing but there is also a lot of pickerel and grinnel. there is a dirt road just south of farindale with a sign saying kennedy's cemetary it is down there. after on that road there is a VERY small sign that says gray's lake be aware because this sign is hard to detect. the sign is on the left. after that follow the main road to the lake.

Thanks, rieve. We might get up to check it out Monday. If not, I'll get up and check it out later this week.

bobberwatcher have you ever fished upper or lower canada. it is a private saline river oxbow on a deer lease near grays lake. I have heard of monster crappie and huge numbers coming out of there but there is a waiting list a mile long to join the lease.

I haven't had a chance to make it to Gray's yet but I can give a report. Bream and cats are hitting hard on the Ouachita river around here hard and fast. on the oxbows as well, including Webb, Little Johnson, Big Muddy. My father and I spent all day Saturday jumping lakes and ended up with a good bit of bream. When we got to the river, dad threw in a worm and within 30 seconds had a 5lb cat hooked.
My boss wants me to go tight lining for cats in Big Muddy on Tuesday and on Saturday night, all of the supervisors and I are going out to Bragg. Boss' wife caught a 20lb flathead in DeGray a week ago this past Saturday. Other than that, the only reports I know of around here say the crappie are extremely slow. Something tells me that the weekend trip will be interesting, to say the least...
