Has anyone ever fished Bear Creek during the spawn? I know that the fish will go and spawn at the same areas over and over, and was wondering if anyone had a map showing where that would be. Any help would be nice, because I may be going there this weekend.
I haven't been this year..but last year when you find them would be 10-20 in the same area.* I backed off from the bank and cast 1/32 jig with chart tail and slowly brought it back...get any heavier and stay hung.* Past the island out from ramp...go down 2-3 inlets start at the front and work way back into them....only places I fished was on the left or closest to the road.* I went about 10 times until other lakes got good and did well every time.* It was my first year to ever fish it.* Size was not big, but were keepers.

I dont have a map, but I do know the lake pretty well. we were there yesterday caught 23 crappie couple of real good ones and if you like to catch bream and crackers hold on to your hat it should really start getting good in the next few days. we caught all of our crappie on southern pro umbrella tubes (blue and white) tipped with a rosie red. As soon as you put your boat in throw your spider rig out and troll on over to the levee, we caught all of ours from 8'-12'. The bream fishing was a little more exciting we caught close to fifty using crickets fishing about 4'deep off of the points. Use a spinning reel and a porcupine quill throw it to the bank reel it in til it falls off the ledge of the points, about the time the quill stands up it'll be gone. By the weekend the Crappie and bream ought to be in the coves in the shallower water.
Major point to consider:
All outboards over 10hp must be disabled. Larger motors cannot be used for any reason, including loading or unloading from the trailer. Not using the motor is not enough----it must be disabled. Signs are posted at the lake indicating what is acceptable.
Definitely a yes on what polebender says. It will cost you 150$ if you have your motor enabled. However, if you have your gas line unattached he'll let you slip. You big bass boaters, trim your motors up and you will be ok. Plugs out are another option.
I would find a cove with a few trees laid down in it with about 8 to 10 feet of water. tie off and fish it for a bit. Crappie spawn reasonably deep there, by that 4 foot deep. There are some shellcrackers of good size still there. The crappie have gotten smaller there for some reason. I don't know if it is due to overpopulation or over fished. I'm thinking overfished. :confused:
Oh, take some minnows with you, you just might need them.
Listen for those spring time turkey's and let us know where you hear them.
