Does anyone ever fish Balsam Lake? A friend of mine said he goes there in Aug and does real good on crappie and bluegill. Any info would be great. Size limits, creel limits. Do they have a HP restriction?

Give me your "morel" spots!!!!!!!!!!!!! catching crappies is easy.LOL
It's not the catching I have a problem with. It's the finding them:(. Now you want my shroom locations for your crappie locations:eek:. Hmmmmmm it would take many, many two pounder crappies for me to give up that information. :):):). Maybe we need to set up a GPS coordinate exchange thread.
I'd say pick any bay that borders the north end of the lake and fish the weedline till you locate them.Balsam has tons of structure to fish with lots of bays.Just go try a spot that's on the northend.Crappies will be in there right after iceout.Look for the warmest waters too.:D
Thanks for the info on where to fish. I owe you a morel shroom or two. What I am reaaly wanting to know, is the lake worth going to? It would be a 5-6 drive for me. Are there any cabins or motels close by? Are the crappie decent size? I couldn't find much doing a search for this lake. Again thanks and good fishing to you all.
There's a motel right in Balsam Lake. Here is their info.

I don't know what size crappies you're used to getting.I've caught 3/4 to a pound crappies on Balsam and have seen bigger crappies caught...but I don't keep any over a pound anyways.I prefer smaller crappies for tablefare. If you want bigger crappies maybe you should try the Hayward lakes/Solon Springs area. They have slabs up there.
