Are the threads on the shaft going into the motor the same as regular pipe threads? I plan on shortened the shaft and it appears after much study that the best way is to take the shaft from the motor , cut it off and rethread. This is a foot operated motor and you run into all kind of problems trying to cut the shaft at the top. Thanks for anyones help.
Not standard pipe thread as far as I can tell. The threads seemed too fine to be standard pipe type. I could be wrong.Quote:

It's an uncommon 1" by 20 thread and I happen to have one if you need it. It was easier for me to cut mine at the top and re-thread.
Mine was an aluminum lower shaft and I cut it with a pipe cutter very easy. If you have a stainless one you might have a problem. You can buy shorter shaft tubes already threaded at a trolling motor shop but you will have to break the tube free from the motor and make sure you seal it well with the new connection.
