Im thinking about one of these for my canoe and wonder if anyone has any experience with them that they could share. I have not seen anywhere that they have been reviewed by any buyers that I could find. The cheepest one does not have side imaging but I wonder if the ones that do would be worth the additional money or should I just forget about these units and try to mount something else in the canoe. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.
I bought one three years ago. Runs on 2 6 volt batteries. It has a suction cup to mount the transducer on the side of a boat. Cup dried out and wouldn't stay stuck. Totally frustrating. Be prepared to use some sort of clamp on mount. Other than that works fine.
The fishing buddy Im referring to has everything enclosed in one unit and clamps to the side of the canoe or other boat side. I think that hummingbird bought bottomline as they use to have a similar unit to the current hummingbird fishingbuddy. In this unit the xducer is mounted on the bottom of a pole that sticks down in the water. Here is the unit:

I also am interested in this product...only thing I could find on reviews is that it occasionally didn't read the proper depth range. but could be associated with low battery juice (uses 6 betteries for 40 hours...). Have a Pelican Bass Raider that I would use it on. for $99.00 it sounds like a good deal
There was one review on Cabelas site that said it worked good but not at speed it "poped out" and I dont know exactly what that means.
anybody else have any experience with this product? I too am looking tyo get one that I can use in my canoe and kayak.
I used one a couple years ago... it worked fine untill it did not work anymore.. It lasted me 2 years then on the water one day I heard a sizzle and then the screen did not come up and that was the end of it
The fishin buddies just came out this year. They have been redesigned for Humminbird.

I ordered a 130 Fishin' Buddy from Cabela's last month. Tried it on my canoe on Saturday. It was easy to use--I just clamped it to the gunwale, turned it on and fished. I put it on the right side of the canoe, and the only problem I had with it was in avoiding banging it with the paddle. I'll have to work on placement.
Sensitivity was fine. I'm looking forward to using it with a belly boat this fall.
