Normally, last week, followed by this week and then next week. Last week of March and then the first two in April. Not true this year though.:(
I had the same question and asked an old timer years back because we always made reservations 1 year ahead of time and it was hit or miss...so the old timer told me for all around fishing success he would concentrate his efforts on the 15th of April he said there will always be fish in shallow on that date ...even when we have a early spawn and if its late then your right in there too
I used to go every year about the second week of April also. More times than not, we'd find plenty of fish shallow then. Most years we'd either hit the spawn in full swing or get there a week late, but either way there were fish to be caught. How is the water at Kentucky Lake. Is it ridiculously high like everything here in Ohio? I may be looking for somewhere to go for a couple days myself. Will likely be bringing three young boys, so I don't want to fish high water.
I like that 2nd/3rd week of April but, from what I've been seeing on here, I'm definitely thinking of moving my vacation back 1 week. I'm scheduled to be down there from April 12 thru 19 but have been talking about moving trip to April 19 to 26. With the Ohio river still so high in the Paducha area, I can't see where the can put the water.
Speckwick, water is up a little over 7' and falling slowly. See Kentuckylake.com for info.
Well, KY lake is at 362 but predicted to drop to 360'ish in the next couple days. Summer pool is 359 but they usually ramp up from 355 to 359 starting April 1 and reaching full pool 359 April 15.
I'm betting on it all even-ing out by April 20 and will fish April 20 through 23rd..never fished this late.
the mid-April responses make me feel a bit better about the later fishing. I've been trained to fish in March! Of course, that was pretty much a bust this year!
